How I spent my weekend, including big picture post at the end

Let's see? I kicked off my weekend driving 30 miles out of my way to avoid an accident, Bite of Seattle, and a Mariner's game to drive my oldest son to meet his dad in Centralia at 9:00 at night. Which means I left at 7:00 to get an hour and 20 minutes away. And I got there at 9:30. Why, people, why do you insist on slowing down to check out accidents or people that were pulled over? I mean, don't get me wrong, I am sick enough to check that out, too, but I don't fucking slow down to check it out. I am coordinated enough to maintain the speed limit AND check out the pour soul who got nailed by the cops. I don't need to slow down whenever I see a State patrolman, mostly because, um, hello? he has just pulled someone else over. He is NOT going to jump back in his car, totally disregard the person he currently has pulled over, to nail me for going, let's say, 10 miles over the speed limit. He is busy, folks, he can't bust you right now. So SPEED THE FUCK BACK UP!

OK, back to my weekend.

Saturday, we cleaned up the house, then checked out the Bee Boppin' Bugs performance at 3rd Place Books, which was hosted by King County Library Services. Free! Yeah! Kenzie was brought up on stage not once, but TWICE. Once, she held a box while the singer pulled out bug parts that made a fly, then she came up the next time to be a Lady Bug. I took pictures, but only with my cell phone. And I am much too lazy to email it. I can barely text, so typing out my whole long email address is too big of a burden. Later that night, my mom came over. We watched Jumper (good, not excellent), and watched the dogs go bat shit crazy. Have you seen Wicket yet? I don't think my mom has posted pictures. Hmm, I don't think I showed her how. No matter, you'll see some now.

Sunday, we were up semi-early, and then did nothing for the day. Jay and I ran to Fred Meyer to pick up some stuff for dinner and poster board for a study he is doing. Then my mom and I made an outrageously delicious dinner. Teriyaki turkey cheeseburgers, sauteed mushrooms with garlic AND caramelized onions. It was fucking awesome! I gave you the recipe awhile ago, and if you haven't made them, do it now. I must insist you do it soon. While it is still grilling season. If you use turkey, though, don't use the lean ground turkey, it will fall apart on the grill. The kids played in the sprinkler, the dogs slept or played, and we just lounged around. We also had to make lists and dinner menus for vacation, which is just 4 days away. Seven nights, 8 days at the Oregon coast. I cannot wait!!!!!!!!!!!!

So even though I have been posting much more frequently, I may not have the time this week to post much again. I have 5 people plus a dog to get packed for 7 nights, 8 days at the beach. And I have to clean the house, because I can't stand coming home to a dirty or messy house after 7 nights, 8 days at the beach. Plus, I have to make snacks and meals, plus shop for food for 7 nights, 8 days at the beach. I am making mini banana almond muffins, monkey cakes for breakfasts, a lasagna (which means I need to make sauce, which is an all day affair), and some other things. I am also taking the eggplant Parmesan and Turkey chili that I made and is in the freezer, plus the cookies Jay is making, breakfast burritos my mom is making, and all the other dinner preparation stuff for the meals we will make while there.

Some of you are probably wondering why we are making food and bringing so much to make when we are going on vacation to relax. But the reason is simple, really. Not only is it much cheaper (remember, family of 5 plus dog = expensive to feed), but none of us want to go through the 7 nights, 8 days of feeling icky. The last 4 years has been about eating as much shit as we could possibly consume while on vacation, but paying the price of gaining 16 pounds (Jay), puking blood (Christie. Thanks alcohol. The bleeding ulcer is awesome.) and just feeling icky and cranky. When we eat healthier, we feel healthier, which means we have the energy to go and play more. So there.

I'm going to step off my soap box now and say this. I had a great weekend. My 2 younger kids had a lot of fun, my husband and I enjoyed each other (not that way, geesh), the dogs played very hard, which means the slept like logs, and we all got to enjoy having my mom with us. We love relaxing weekends, and having my mom here was just the cherry on the very big cake for us.

I don't mean to alarm you, but Mr. McFatty appears to be molesting your daughter in a couple of those pictures.

well that looks like a good time! Have fun on your vacation, and the burgers sound delicious... where would I need to look to find that recipe?

Lizzle- I've added the link on the page, from when I gave out the recipe. I would have done it before, but, eh, I'm lazy.
