I'm gonna be cooking, ya'll

We are going to be super busy this weekend. We are going to a re-commitment ceremony for our friends tonight who are celebrating their 10 year anniversary, and I am bringing an Alfredo Spinach Mushroom Chicken lasagna (yes, it is as good as it sounds). Tomorrow, we are going to a bar-b-que for Kenzie's future father-in-law and I am bringing my awesome potato salad. Then my brother and sister-in-law are coming for drinking games that night. The next morning, I will be making my famous Monkey Cakes and bacon. For lunch, I will be preparing my Mother's Awesome Meatloaf and Spinach Dip with pita chips on the side. My brother-in-law is at my mercy with the potato salad and would probably give me his first born for some, and my sister-in-law is a crazy woman for my spinach dip. Just like my homemade spaghetti sauce my friend Jann just can't get enough of, my friends and family in Portland are going to miss the shit out of my cooking!

Since the recipes I'm making this weekend are my secrets, I thought I would pass along one of my favorite recipes that is so easy, even a man can make it.

Terriyaki Cheeseburgers

  1. 1 lb. ground meat (I prefer ground turkey myself, but you can do half turkey, half hamburger)
  2. 2 cups shredded cheddar cheese (I use extra sharp, but you can use any type)
  3. 3/4 cup Soy Vay Veri Veri Terriyaki sauce (you can find this at any grocery store in Asian Food aisle or for cheaper at Trader Joe's. It's in a clear bottle with a white label and bright blue writing)

Mix all together, form into patties, and cook on a griddle. I do not suggest doing them on the grill as they are pretty juicy and could fall apart. I also suggest putting them on onion buns.

My mom came up with this recipe when I was a little girl, and I perfected it with my find of the Soy Vay sauce. It is awesome, I swear by it. It has minced garlic in it, so it has a very great flavor. I've made these with all of the other terriyaki sauces, and this one just perfects them. Once you've made these a few times, you can vary the amount of cheese and sauce to your liking. I've made them with pepper jack cheese and cheddar and it was really good!

So good luck, and happy eating! I'm off to the store for all the ingredients.

I am so wanting monkey cakes and bacon. There aren't a lot of people that appreciate a good monkey.

Good news Christie! I only gained 15 pounds reading this post. ;)

Have a great weekend.

I have a similar recipe, only instead of teriyaki sauce, I use vodka. And instead of cheddar cheese, I use rum. And instead of hamburger, I use scotch.

Jessica: You are so welcome!

Angela: You have to use the finest monkey, of course, or they just don't turn out.

Ryan: I know I would, baby.

Corky: I'll let you know how good it was when I finally roll myself out of the food coma on Monday.

Dyck: Now for that I am willing to admit maybe 4.5 inches is big. I would love you forever if you could make me one of those. Thanks!

Very yummy sounding!

Yesterday we made some flank steak that had been marinated in teriyaki and beer, and it was fabulous!

I love Soy Vay Teriyaki sauce and will try the burger recipe, but implore you to take pity and share some of the other recipes, too, even if you will have to kill us afterwards

I don't like mushrooms. But I'd be willing to pick them out for such a delicacy!

Girl, is your liver OK? From all that alcohol you've been metabolizing ... it must be dead tired!

That all sounds yummy!

And we were just at Trader Joe's! I'll have to keep a look out for the Soy Vay Veri Veri Terriyaki next time we're there.
