Today was cold when we got up, and it just felt like a good day to have some savory food. I had sliced up the remaining half of butternut squash and roasted it the other day when I made roasted squash in a butter herb sauce over pasta, and I needed to use it. And I knew sausage would be a big hit with Jay, so I thought hey, lasagna.
Kenzie and I also made spiced cupcakes with cream cheese frosting sprinkled with cinnamon sugar. Very autumn-y, right? I tried one, you know, just to make sure they were good, and, of course, they were.
I really enjoy being in the kitchen during this time of year. I am eager to get started on Thanksgiving food preparations. We are hosting again this year, and I am having a hard time delegating food duties. I want to make it all. Mostly because if I have the choice to make it over someone else just going out and buying it, I would prefer to make it. Everything is better homemade. Here is what is on the menu so far, at least the stuff I am making:
- brined and roasted turkey (at least 20 pounds)
- smoked turkey legs (Jay is doing this)
- cranberry ice cream
- pumpkin ice cream
- sweet potato pie
- Kahlua and cream pie (my Nanna doesn't like fruit pies)
- yeast rolls with honey butter
- cranberry sauce
- mashed potatoes and turkey gravy
- green bean casserole (all from scratch, I refuse to use cream of mushroom soup or canned onions)
Crap, now I am hungrier than I was when I started writing this.
Anyway, have a good weekend.

looks like heaven on a plate to me!!!! Where's my invite Christie and Jay? :)
damn, I wanna eat at your house!!!
Now you have me all excited! After two wedding showers I now have all the bakeware and kitchen necessities for a Thanksgiving dinner, but no sanity left to pull it off! Lol! That cranberry ice cream sounds so good. I'd eat it for breakfast if you offered me some now, ha!
Yum, sounds delicious....
Sounds delish! I'm with you about homemade - Thanksgiving is not a time for food out of a box.
Ummm... don't keep a pregnant woman waiting on good food Christie! ;-) How was it??!!
wow... I'm sorry that I missed this... I could have crashed your thanksgiving! wow! That sounds like it was sooo yummy!
