Days 3-5

Wednesday:

I am calling this day Injury Day. By 11:00 in the morning, I had dealt with 1 fat, bloody lip, a child who had gotten the wind knocked out of him, 3 knee scrapes, and one daughter who had been bit and pinched by the 2 year old. By lunch, things had calmed down. The stealer's dad picked up her brother before she was out of school, so I didn't have to deal with her at least. I was already counting down the days until Jay arrived.

Thursday:

Better known as Hot As Fuck Day. We reached 97 degrees by 2:00. I put the kids in swim trunks or swim diapers, and pulled out the hose. We played in the water from 11:00 until 12:30 and then came in for a break until the older kids got home from school. Then we went out again. Unfortunately, all the neighborhood hoodlums showed up and ruined it for everyone. I had no problem letting them play in the water, too, but they were scaring off the little kids. And it was too hot to just ride bikes and play outside if they weren't getting wet to cool them off. So after yelling at them numerous times, I brought the kids in and cleaned them up. We then cleaned up the living room, ate popcorn and watched a movie until the parents showed up. What sucked was that one mom showed up 20 minutes late. The same mom that had just decided to drop off her kid an hour early without telling me. I had had her kid for close to 12 hours by the time she picked her up. Ugh. I had to remind parents that when it is this hot out, long sleeve shirts and lined track pants were not comfortable to wear. I could not believe that 3 of the kids showed up dressed for winter when it so obviously was going to be a nice day. I mean, it was 78 degrees by 8:00.

Friday:

I refer to this as Thank Goodness it is Friday, I Am Ready To Kill Someone. Again, the same parent who was early and late showed up early again. I was getting ready to yell at her, but another person showed up. She was this close to getting my wrath. Anyway, a few more parents showed up, again, their kids dressed for a blizzard. Are they retarded? One parent even brought a wool lined coat with their kid. Do they really think a winter storm is going to hit or what? What is wrong with these morons? Anyway, by 4:30, I was down to just one kid, plus my own 3, and Jann's 2. And finally, FINALLY, it was time to go get Jay at the train station. I picked him up alone and could hardly contain myself with excitement.

Saturday:

Date Night! We took the kids to the park for an hour or so, had a picnic, dropped off Masona t Sean's, had Evan and Kenzie nap and got ready to go out. The baby-sitter showed up at 5:30 and off we went to dinner at Ruby Tuesday's, and to buy necessities for a smoker, then to the movie theater to see What Happens In Vegas. We both laughed our asses off the whole time. I was a great date movie and I can't wait until it comes out on DVD. The rest of the night needs no explaining. You get what happens when husband and wife do in the dark after not seeing each other for over a week.

Sunday:

Or I already miss my husband and he's not even gone yet. We pretty much hung out during the day. We had to be downtown at Union Station by 2:oo. Plus, I start back up with 4 endless days of hell, so I wanted to have some quiet time. We played Trouble (we each won a game), locked the kids out of the bedroom for some hanky panky, then we all took Jay to the depot. I cried. On the way home, we stopped at Pittock Mansion and checked out the views. I took some pictures of the kids (I'll post them when I get home) and then stopped off at Safeway for some fruit and milk. Then we made pancakes for dinner, cleaned up the house, bathed and read stories, and then I put the kids to bed. I am now sitting alone, in the dark, writing this, missing my husband like no ones business.

I am amazed at how attached I am with him. I can go a day or 2 without seeing him, but this is the longest we have been apart in over 7 years. Before that, the longest was 3 days, but only 2 nights. I cannot sleep without him with me, and if I do, I wake up often. I miss chatting over dinner, and how Charlie greets him at the door. I miss my kiss good-bye in the morning, and I miss going to see him at the hospital after Kenzie's speech class.

Anyway, my sleeping pills are kicking in and I am starting to drift off. So good-bye and good night. More later.

Holy shit, it was SO HOT!

This whole thing sounds insanely exhausting. And being away from home makes it all the more so. When are you finished?
